Book Care Rules
- Keep your books clean and dry.
- Keep your books away from pets.
- No food or drinks around your books.
- Keep crayons and markers away from your books.
- Use a bookmark.
Check-Out Procedures
The library media center is divided into three general sections: Fiction, Non-fiction, and "Everybody."
During the Fall semester,
During the Spring semester,
Students in second through fifth grade can check out two books from any section.
Student check-outs last for one week; items may be renewed twice.
During the Fall semester,
- Kindergarten students: 1 book at a time from the library's white baskets
- First grade students: 1 book at a time from the "Everybody" section
During the Spring semester,
- Kindergarten students: 1 book at a time from the "Everybody" section
- First grade students: 1 book at a time from the Non-fiction section.

Five Finger Rule
Students in second through fifth grade are encouraged to use the Five Finger Rule to help them choose independent reading material.
Open a book to any page. Read all the words on that page. Count how many words are tricky on your left hand.

- 1 tricky word (thumb): Thumbs up! This is a “vacation” book that is fun to read and re-read.
- 2 tricky words (thumb & index finger): “L” stands for “learning.” This book will help you grow as a reader.
- 3 tricky words (first three fingers): “W” stands for “willing to try.” This book might be a challenge. Try it.
- 4 or 5 tricky words: Try this book as a buddy read or family read with some help.
